Role • Operations Technology provides global Development and Support to the Operations division of RBS Global Banking and Markets. • This role is to lead projects to deliver major changes to the Equity Cash Operations IT platform. • The role requires working closely to the Equity Operations SMEs, BA, Operations users and other IT teams spread across London, HK and India.
Team Function & Role • Deliver, maintain and support Equity Cash post trade processing IT platform/s. • Working closely with Operations users, BA and other support team members to ensure systems availability, reliability and extendibility to support changing business needs. Role specific responsibilities: • Work with senior business and technology managers, as required, to identify business requirements and the associated business case for development projects. • Complete the analysis of business requirements, including the definition of requirements scope, solution design, plan, timescales and costs. • Manage a team of development resources, as required, to deliver development projects, in accordance with agreed specification, design, plan, timescales and cost. • Co-ordination with key stakeholders from business and other IT teams across multiple locations to ensure project execution to agreed scope. • Formal project reporting against agreed scope, specification and plan. • Formal management of change against agreed scope, specification and plan. • Monitor and manage the performance of development team resources, including RBS and third-party resources, including intervention and escalation, as required. • Support coaching and career development of permanent employees, including individual and team skill-gaps and assimilation of new technology skills. • Monitor and manage the on-going performance of third-parties vendors and service providers in providing product, analysis and development, services. • Issue Management (including problem analysis and generation of solutions); Change Management; Test Management; Status Tracking & Reporting. • Interaction with numerous business groups (Operations, Middle Office, Front Office, Risk, and Finance etc.) throughout the full project lifecycle, and with other IT teams as appropriate. • Participate in recruitment activity – define new skill requirements and assess potential candidate fit.
Essential Experience: (Must have skills) Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s qualification in Science/I.T. or an Engineering College Degree or MBA
Technical Knowledge: • A minimum of 9 years experience in software development • A background in IT Application Development/leading/management • Exposure to handling business users. • Experience working in geographically distributed team. • Previous experience in handling and managing development / support projects in the investment banking domain. • Sound knowledge of modern software architectures and development techniques including experience in running project using a defined methodology. • Application of structured software development techniques including requirements analysis, functional decomposition, modelling, prototyping, functional design, estimating and testing. • Exposure to C++/Java programming (server side / client side) Experience in managing projects in Java/C++ technologies. • Strong in relational database and SQL preferably Oracle PL/SQL. • Ability to work in Unix/Linux environment - Basic commands, Shell scripting. Business Knowledge: • Sound understanding of Capital Market. • Experience of core Back Office processes and processing within a major investment bank is a distinct advantage. Supplementary Experience: (Useful additional skill) • Experience in systems supporting equity settlement will be distinct advantage. • Experience working in back office systems of an Investment Bank. • Exposure to Data warehousing applications/BI tools would be an added advantage. Personal Attributes: • Ability to work as part of a Global Delivery Team with emphasis on teams in different geographical locations. • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal. Be able to adapt delivery style and language to suit the audience. Able to present complex issues and solutions to mixed audiences, where necessary resolving conflict and complexity by delivering practical solutions. • Ability to work well in a dynamic environment and multi-task (short delivery timescales; an evolutionary business with changing requirements and priorities; interaction with business users and other technology teams etc.). • Strong personal ownership and commitment to quality.
